Top 5 Wednesday: Gateway Books

It’s Wednesday so that means that it’s Top 5 Wednesday and this  week’s  topic is top five gateway books. To find more about Top 5 Wednesday’s you can join the  Goodreads group  and discover the creator of the group  Lainey  but is currently being curated, by Samantha . I haven't done this for a while so this will be interesting but anyway, let’s get started… Number 5: The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak This book is a great way to get into to almost adult fiction. It has been a hugely popular book for a while now on booktube but in general after a film was made a couple of years ago. It is also one of my favourite books so is worth a read! Number 4: The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon This book is often considered to be both YA and adult so therefore it is a good gateway book especially if you really fantasy books. Number 3: The Opposite Loneliness by Marina Keegan Being a combination of non-fiction and fiction stories, The Oppo

Rapid Fire Book Tag

A book tag that has been doing the rounds on YouTube is the Rapid Fire Book Tag which was created by Kate at GirlReading and it is one that I really enjoy watching so wanted to answer the questions myself. Without further ado, let's get started... - E-Book or Physical Book?   Physical Book. But I like E-Books because I tend to read them quicker than paperbacks.  - Paperback or Hardback? Paperback because they are just easier to read than a hardback.  - Online or In-Store Book Shopping? Both because you can get cheap books online and in store.  - Trilogies or Series? Trilogies because I am really terrible at  completing series in general so series are just too long.  - Heroes or Villains? Heroes because I have never been a fan of villains they are evil for a reason. - A book you want everyone to read? The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan because it is a great book but not many people have read it.  - Recommend an underr

Summer Wrap Up

As you all have probably noticed, it is now September. I know a shocker right? But with September comes to the end of summer which means that school is starting and autumn is coming. At the beginning of summer, I made a list of books that I wanted to read before summer ends and although I did not complete this list, I still read a lot of books and by a lot of books I mean 55 books including graphic novels. So I thought I would talk about my favourite 14 books that I read. Let's get started... Number 1: Hawkeye Volumes 1-4 by Matt Fraction and David Aja After I got a free months trial of Marvel Unlimited over the summer, this meant that I had taken advantage of it. I had heard good things about so, therefore, I read the volume. It was a really nice take on a character who does not always get the screen time he deserves and these comics are a great way to learn more about as a character.  Number 2: She-Hulk Volumes 1 and 2 by Charles Soule Again with the use of the Marv

I "failed" NaNoWriMo and Why That Is OK...

So after years of ideas for books, I finally decided that it would be time to start to write my story. In July it was Camp NaNoWriMo. Some could say that this was the perfect month. I had no university as I had finished for the summer, had little to no plans except for YALC at the end of the month and had lots and lots of time. This may lead you to wonder why I did not write my story.  Well, truth is I was scared.  I had already written about 2000 words of my story and I was enjoying it. I mean I love writing anyway but writing my own story was different. It was my world. My characters. My everything. I even felt like I was putting myself into this book but something was stopping me. Holding me back. This was hindering my writing. I just thought that everything I was written was rubbish and then I wanted to change it but all the changes that I had to do were scary and I just did not want to change them. This is so weird and I don't know why I did not but that was the way that i

If you like Stranger Things, then you will like this...

So last week, like most that have a Netflix account, I watched Stranger Things and l became hooked with it like so many other people. I know that there is a long wait before season 2 so keep you happy I thought that I could recommend things that are similar to Stranger Things, including books and movies. So let's get started... Books: North of Porter by Kirkland Ciccone Similar to the plot of Stanger Things, Porter Minister moves to a town where quite "strange things" are happening. No there is no upside down or 80s but it is still the adventure of finding people who have gone missing and aliens are involved. It is also incredibly weird (in a good way) and is definitely worth a read.  Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell Set in the 80s and full of references to comics of the time, the similarities with stranger things are there with the setting but are not with the themes. Great for people who want that 80s nostalgia after their Stranger Things binge.
