Wrap Up of Popsugar Challenge 2016

OK so at the start of the year, I made a post about completing the Popsugar Reading Challenge, explaining that I wanted to complete most of the challenges by the end of the year but by combining them with my everyday reading. I felt like this was something that I enjoyed to do and managed to complete lots of tasks so I am pretty happy with how it went. Popsugar are also doing the challenge in 2017 and this is something that I am definitely going to do. So shall we see how I did... Challenges: A book based on a fairy tale:  Winter  By Marissa Meyer A National Book Award winner: Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman A YA bestseller:  Finding Audrey  by Sophie Kinsella  A book you haven’t read since high school:  Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone  by J.K. British Books Challenge 2017

So today I thought that I will tell you about a challenge that I am going to sign up to in 2017. This is the British Books Challenge which has been running for the last couple of years but in 2017 is being run by Chelle from Tales of Yesterdays .  The British Books Challenge was created with the focus of reading and reviewing British authors throughout the year. The aim is to read 12 books by these authors which equal's one a month. These can be from any genre but has a focus on YA and MG fiction. If you would like to sign up, you can do so here . Some of the books I would like to read include... As you can see I have more than enough options here and have heard so many things about these books. To be honest I read lots of UKYA books anyway but to be involved as part of a challenge is nice and should be fun seeing people's reviews over the course of the end.  Are you planning on signing up for the challenge? What reading challenges would you like to complete this ye

Dream Crate: Strong Female Characters

OK so a couple of weeks ago, I found that Loot Crate was looking for people to make their own "Dream Crate." It is fair to say I freaked out at this email as I have been watching Loot Crate unboxings for a long time but have never got one of their crates so the fact that I could make my own is pretty amazing. If you don't know what Loot Crate is, it is a monthly subscription service that contains pop culture items based on a specific theme, you can find more information at lootcrate.com . The theme that I choose for my box is Strong Female Characters. So let's get started... 1. A Marvel Comics Pop Funko  Loot Crate normally has some kind of figure in their boxes so for mine, I choose the 3 heroines of Spider-Gwen, Captain Marvel and She-Hulk. I thought that these would be a nice addition to the box because as all three of them can kick ass and I really enjoying reading the comics.  2. A Star Wars based pin  Source So again like the Pop Funkos, loot crate

Cramathon TBR- Dec 2016

So it's been a while, hasn't it. University has just been crazy and I have not really had time to read or blog but I now off for Christmas. Although I have a few deadlines and Harry Potter society stuff to do, I hope that I will be posting on here again soon. Anyway, I thought that I would post a Cramathon TBR which is a readathon hosted by WhittyNovels and Aprililus Maximus. The readathon starts on 16th December at 12 am and finished at 12 am on the 23rd December with the aim to read as much as possible to complete your Goodreads goal. I have already completed my Goodreads goal but need to get back into reading so thought this would be the way to do it. There are challenges that you need to complete and I am going to talk about them now. So let's get started... Challenges 1. Read a book under 200 pages Marly's Ghost by David Levithan - I think that it is around 160 pages so definitely fits this theme and it is almost a retelling of a Christmas Carol so seems like

Book Review: Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

* I have received this book for review from the publisher but this in no way affects my review * Title:  Gemina Author: Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman  Source:  Publisher Publisher: Rock The Boat Rating:  5/5 stars Summary of the book from GoodReads : Hanna Donnelly is the station captain’s pampered daughter and Nik Malikov is the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. Together they struggle with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, blissfully unaware that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall with news of the Kerenza invasion. Picking up about five minutes after Illuminae ends, Gemina is the electrifying sequel to the hottest YA novel of 2015. Book Review Summary:   So like almost everyone who read Illuminae last year, I fell in love with the book so obviously when the opportunity came to review Gemina I jumped at the chance. This was an incredible book, equally Illuminae and was well worth the wait.  Book Rev

Blog Tour: Book Review of The Wave by Lochlan Bloom

* I have received this book for review from the publisher but this in no way affects my review * Title: The Wave Author:  Lochlan Bloom Source:  Neverland Blog Tours Publisher: DeadInk Publishers Rating:  /5 stars Summary of the book:  When μ returns home to find a sinister screenplay has arrived from Brazil it propels him on a quest to track down a character he believes to be called Ddunsel. As μ’s search progresses it slowly becomes entangled with two parallel tales – the stories of DOWN, a troubled publisher, and David Bohm, a real-life quantum theoretician in post-war São Paulo. Just how far is it from London to Gotham City? Or from Paul Auster to Pierre Menard for that matter?  Some people may think these sorts of questions are idle and ultimately meaningless but this book is not for them. The Wave combines multiple narratives to blend metafiction, historical fiction and screenplay as each of the characters struggles to understand what is reality and what

Poetry. How I did not think that I could write poetry but managed to anyway.

So this is quite a random post but life has gone a bit crazy recently and I guess that this translated into me writing some poetry. At least I think that it is poetry. This is all a bit weird to me though because I generally thought that I would ever write poetry but I guess here we are. It is just a poem about how crazy life can get sometimes and it explains me right now. I might write a follow-up blog post soon but we will see. Here is the poem/may not poem... Life is unexpected.  It has a way of pushing you into situations you could never guess a week before. But that's life.  It's weird.  One minute you are doing one thing then next... Poof.  Gone.  In an instant.  Then you are on to something different. It's like a rollercoaster.  You can go up.  You can go down.  But whatever it is just hold on tight because it will be a ride.  Thanks for reading. See you soon,  Amy

Top 5 Wednesday: Gateway Books

It’s Wednesday so that means that it’s Top 5 Wednesday and this  week’s  topic is top five gateway books. To find more about Top 5 Wednesday’s you can join the  Goodreads group  and discover the creator of the group  Lainey  but is currently being curated, by Samantha . I haven't done this for a while so this will be interesting but anyway, let’s get started… Number 5: The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak This book is a great way to get into to almost adult fiction. It has been a hugely popular book for a while now on booktube but in general after a film was made a couple of years ago. It is also one of my favourite books so is worth a read! Number 4: The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon This book is often considered to be both YA and adult so therefore it is a good gateway book especially if you really fantasy books. Number 3: The Opposite Loneliness by Marina Keegan Being a combination of non-fiction and fiction stories, The Oppo

Rapid Fire Book Tag

A book tag that has been doing the rounds on YouTube is the Rapid Fire Book Tag which was created by Kate at GirlReading and it is one that I really enjoy watching so wanted to answer the questions myself. Without further ado, let's get started... - E-Book or Physical Book?   Physical Book. But I like E-Books because I tend to read them quicker than paperbacks.  - Paperback or Hardback? Paperback because they are just easier to read than a hardback.  - Online or In-Store Book Shopping? Both because you can get cheap books online and in store.  - Trilogies or Series? Trilogies because I am really terrible at  completing series in general so series are just too long.  - Heroes or Villains? Heroes because I have never been a fan of villains they are evil for a reason. - A book you want everyone to read? The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan because it is a great book but not many people have read it.  - Recommend an underr

Summer Wrap Up

As you all have probably noticed, it is now September. I know a shocker right? But with September comes to the end of summer which means that school is starting and autumn is coming. At the beginning of summer, I made a list of books that I wanted to read before summer ends and although I did not complete this list, I still read a lot of books and by a lot of books I mean 55 books including graphic novels. So I thought I would talk about my favourite 14 books that I read. Let's get started... Number 1: Hawkeye Volumes 1-4 by Matt Fraction and David Aja After I got a free months trial of Marvel Unlimited over the summer, this meant that I had taken advantage of it. I had heard good things about so, therefore, I read the volume. It was a really nice take on a character who does not always get the screen time he deserves and these comics are a great way to learn more about as a character.  Number 2: She-Hulk Volumes 1 and 2 by Charles Soule Again with the use of the Marv
